Accordion Book Junk Journal Workshop

Discover the Joy of Junk Journaling – One Fold at a Time!

Join us for a hands on, creative workshop where you’ll learn how to make your very own accordion style junk journal! This class is perfect for beginners, crafters, writers, artists, and anyone curious about combining creativity with a bit of storytelling, memory keeping, or even personal reflection.

What Is a Junk Journal?
A junk journal is a handmade book made from a mix of found, recycled, and repurposed materials like old book pages, receipts, envelopes, magazine clippings, fabric scraps, and more. Each journal is a unique reflection of its maker. There's no "wrong" way to do it, and that's part of what makes it magical.

Why Do We Make Junk Journals?
We make junk journals to:
Express creativity with no rules or expectations
Give new life to discarded or everyday materials
Preserve memories in a meaningful, tactile way
Explore self-care through slow, mindful crafting
Tell stories in a visual, layered form

What You'll Use in Class:
In this class, you'll learn how to make an accordion style journal base and fill it with character using:
Recycled paper (book pages, junk mail, etc.).
Cardstock or packaging cardboard.
Scrap fabric, lace, and ribbon.
Ephemera (vintage photos, tickets, stamps).
Rubber stamps, washi tape, stencils, and inks.
Glue sticks, scissors, paper trimmers, bone folders.

You’ll leave with a journal that's not only functional but also full of personality.

What Do We Use Junk Journals For:
Junk journals can be anything you want them to be:
A travel or nature log.
An art journal.
A gratitude journal.
A memory book or scrapbook.
A collage or poetry notebook.
A daily planner with flair.

They’re flexible and deeply personal - perfect for any kind of creative exploration.

Why Junk Journaling Is Fun and Good for You:
Junk journaling is:
Relaxing: It invites you to slow down and be present.
Freeing: There are no mistakes — only happy accidents.
Eco-friendly: You repurpose and reuse instead of throwing away.
Empowering: You create something that’s entirely your own.
Inspiring: It sparks ideas, stories, and feelings through texture, color, and memory.

Whether you consider yourself artistic or not, junk journaling opens the door to creativity in a gentle, welcoming way.

In This Class You’ll Learn:
How to create an accordion fold base structure.
Tips for layering pages and adding flips, tucks, and pockets.
How to select and use “junk” creatively.
